Reporting to the President of the Friends of Bon Echo Park (FOBE), the Executive Director represents the organization and is responsible for its day-to-day operation. Specific duties include: obtaining funding for staff/projects; assisting in managing FOBE finances and developing annual budgets; assisting in the planning, organizing, and supervising of FOBE projects; assisting in the hiring of staff and managing them on a day-to-day basis; maintaining a positive relationship with the superintendent/staff of Bon Echo Park (the Park) and Ontario Parks officials and communicating the various activities of FOBE to the President, Board, members and the public at large.

Knowledge / Skills Required:
This position requires an up-to-date knowledge of:
i) the organization/operation and objectives of Ontario Parks in general and Bon Echo Park specifically
ii) the philosophy/objectives of FOBE and its various daily operations
iii) the funding available to support FOBE activities and projects from federal, provincial and other sources
iv) the natural, social and cultural heritage of the region and of the Park
v) the principles/practice of project management
vi) the principles of human resource management
vii) the principles/practice of financial management
viii) the principles/practice of internal and external communications
ix) computer hardware/software for word processing, spreadsheet analysis, desktop publishing, email messaging and internet research
ix) negotiation skills.

The responsibilities of this position are as follows:
i) to maintain a positive and successful relationship with the host (Ontario Parks)
ii) to represent the values/philosophy of the Friends of Bon Echo Park
iii) to value the natural, social and cultural history of the area and ensure that these are prominent in FOBE projects and activities
iv) to become aware of government and private sector funding for FOBE staff/projects/activities
v) to be knowledgeable of FOBE finances and budgets
vi) to manage FOBE projects successfully from inception to completion
vii) to participate in the hiring, training and allocation of funding received for staff
viii) to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing the activities of FOBE to the Board/members of FOBE as well as Ontario Parks and the public through press releases and newsletters
ix) to interface and partner with other Friends organizations as well as organizations with similar objectives
x) to provide administrative support for FOBE events (such as the Art Exhibition and Sale, Natural Heritage Education events, summer barbecues, etc) in conjunction with the appropriate committees
xi) to coordinate all activities of the Board of the FOBE and its committees
xii) to monitor all financial transactions against the approved budgets and categories
xiii) to ensure all annual performance appraisals of reporting staff are completed.

Reporting Relationships:
i) the Executive Director reports to the President of the Friends of Bon Echo Park
ii) reporting to the Executive Director are:
a. Director of Operations, contracted individuals (for example, the bookkeeper)
b. volunteers performing Board-approved tasks
c. others as assigned by the Board of Directors.

This is a 6-month contract position with renewal option.
