Join the Friends of Bon Echo Park for an introduction to this quintessential Ontario pastime and discover the joy of fishing for yourself!

FISHING 101 SCHEDULE

SAT, JUN 24th

10am at the Lagoon. On-site sign-up begins for the weekend’s hands-on Learn to Fish workshops. Plus check out our kid-friendly fishing hole and learn about all of the creatures lurking in the depths of Mazinaw Lake!

11am-1pm & 2pm-4pm at the Bon Echo Creek Boat Launch. Learn to Fish with the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry. In this two-hour hands-on fishing experience, friendly instructors explain how to use fishing equipment and share some basic tips about fish identification and anatomy. Instructors demonstrate how to fish legally, safely and sustainably. Participants then head to the shoreline. Rods, reels, bait and lifejackets are provided, as well as a one-day fishing licence for adults. Learn to Fish instructors spend an hour supervising and supporting new anglers as they try out their new skills. Space is limited so sign up in advance at EventBrite.

12pm at the Lagoon. Fishing Show & Tell. Come share tales of your angling adventures in and around the Park or learn from locals about where the “sweet spots” are on the nearby lakes. Feeling proud of a particularly impressive catch? Bring pics!

1pm-2pm at the Bon Echo Creek Boat Launch. Lure building with the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry. Drop by the MNRF’s mobile Learn to Fish unit and learn about how to craft your own fishing lures, check out their exciting fish-themed videos or even purchase your 2017 fishing licence on the spot! (No fishing during this time)
