Our Mandate

The Friends of Bon Echo is a non-profit organization that supports and enhances the visitor experience through targeted programming, essential infrastructure investment, and stewardship. We believe that Bon Echo is a world-class natural wonder that deserves a community of dedicated protectors. By working alongside Ontario Parks, we bridge the gap between administrative operations and the experiential magic that makes a visit to the Shield truly unforgettable.

We Support

100 percent of proceeds from our boat operations, Greystones Gift Shoppe sales, and direct donations stay within the park to fund critical infrastructure and discovery gear.
Infrastructure & Trail Rehabilitation
Trail restoration, structural renewal, safety upgrades, and long-term asset protection.
Visitor Experience Enhancements
Tour boat improvements, facility upgrades, and accessibility investments.
Environmental & Cultural Stewardship
Pictograph preservation, ecological stabilization, and sustainable planning.
Discovery & Educational Programming

In partnership with the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

Bon Echo’s iconic 1.5 km Cliff Top Trail was fully rehabilitated to improve safety, durability, and environmental protection. The work included resurfacing the tread path, rebuilding stairs and viewing platforms, and stabilizing sensitive cliffside areas so future generations can safely experience Mazinaw Rock.

The Tour Boat was rebuilt and modernized to support ferry service and interpretive tours on Mazinaw Lake. This investment ensures continued access to the Cliff Top Trail and strengthens one of the park’s most memorable visitor experiences. Revenue generated from tours helps fund future park improvements.

Improvements around the Visitor Centre and Amphitheatre enhanced accessibility and overall visitor experience. The work included upgraded pathways, improved trail surfaces, and accessible infrastructure to better support all visitors moving through these key areas of the park.

Funded in part through the Government of Canada’s Canadian Experiences Fund (FedDev Ontario).

The historic Greystones building was fully restored and revitalized, preserving its heritage while improving its function as a central gathering space. Today, it operates as a gift shop and café that supports park programming and ongoing capital projects.

Funding was directed toward the study and preservation of the Indigenous pictographs on Mazinaw Rock. This work supports the protection of a culturally significant site while helping ensure it can be respectfully experienced and understood by visitors.
